Assessments for Learning Difficulties

If your child or student is experiencing learning difficulties, then a psychoeducational assessment may be the best investment in supporting their learning.

Our psychoeducational assessments are conducted by our experienced psychologists to identify the underlying factors contributing to your child or student’s learning difficulties, such as cognitive, emotional, or behavioural challenges.

By understanding their strengths and weaknesses, we provide recommendations and tailored strategies to overcome obstacles, build confidence, and discover how to support their learning.

What’s involved in a Psychoeducational assessment?

A psychoeducational assessment uses clinical interviews, observations, and a range of tests and rating scales to evaluate how a child learns, processes information, and functions emotionally and behaviourally.

Our psychoeducational assessment includes:

Background Questionnaire

To understand your child’s circumstances and request school reports. This is sent prior to the assessment with optional questionnaire for educators to complete.

Parent / Carer Interview

To discuss your child’s background and family history. A 15-minute conversation completed on the day or prior to the assessment.

Cognitive & Achievement Testing

To investigate your child’s cognitive skills and ability, and measure proficiency in reading, writing, spelling, and maths. Tests are completed on the day of assessment at a Speld Qld facility or via video conference. Assessments are approximately 2-4 hours and include regular breaks. They are conducted in the morning from 8:30am AEST, Monday – Friday. Bookings are essential.

Comprehensive Report

A report outlining the assessments conducted, observations and results. Reports are issued within 6 weeks of the assessment.

Strategies & Recommendations

Practical recommendations and resources to support learning. Recommendations are included in the report.

Follow Up Conversation

Follow up call to discuss report, recommendations and results and answer any further questions you may have. A 20-minute conversation with a registered Psychologist.
